Life is full of mountains and valleys. Just as in real life when we are climbing a mountain we need ropes, water, a compass, a walking stick, and food. So to climb out of a valley of sorrow, depression, or fear we need faith, love, support, and courage. What we learn from our valleys as we climb to reach the mountain top is forever life-changing.

  5. I know from experience that at times the only sunshine that we can see is the one that lights the face of a true and trusted friend. I’ve lost too many marvelous human beings along my own journey, precious, caring and very afraid people, loving people that grew too weary of the ongoing battle to simply survive, and then utterly gave up on themselves, and life. They didn’t ask for anything on their road, they had taught themselves to expect nothing from anyone to avoid disappointment. A simple smile, a kind word, a gesture of humanity can be all it takes to give someone ‘hope’. To help them become aware that somewhere, someday, life could change.

At the end of their day, ‘hope ‘ is the one thing that will allow them to face the light of a new morning.

Smile at someone, and while you do, look into their eyes and try to understand. Understand that connecting with another human being, be they damaged or otherwise is a gift we all posses that we must be willing to share.

  8. May the prayers of the faithful overcome the evil and hatred that walks this earth.
Love is the one emotion that can change everything. Love cannot be destroyed, love is honest, love is true. Showing love to others, even those toxic people that are destructive, lifts the earth a little closer to heaven. Without love, we are nothing but shells trapping a saddened soul.

  10. Never give upon life! Suicide is not an option! It is truly a permanent solution to a temporary problem and one that can’t be undone. Reach out to someone and let them love you through those hard times. Please don’t take yourself from those who truly love you!

  11. In times of sorrow and despair, it is easy to find yourself feeling lost and alone. Truth be known: you are never alone. God is with you each moment of your life, walking side by side with you and holding your hand. Even though you may not feel His touch, he is sending his angels to you now. Someone you do not know will give you a smile. A friend, acquaintance or just a random passerby will offer you words of encouragement. You or they may not know why they did those things, but they have been filled with the Grace of God to comfort you. And their words and deeds will prove that you are not alone, and that God is there with you now.

  13. “Life is not waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.”

Two years ago we lost a family member to cancer three days before Christmas. She was only 49 years old which made it even harder. But wow–she taught us to face each day with love and courage. A memorial service was held in January and a montage of photos featuring her was set to the song “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack. We were all in tears when it was over, but I will forever associate her with that song and the message that we need to embrace life– the good, the bad, and everything in between. We need to dance with whatever life sends our way.

For anyone who isn’t familiar with the song:

    I hope you dance!

Thanks for a great post Nonnie.

    3. Mae, I love this song in the movie: “A FAMILY THAT PREYS TOGETHER.”

Yep, “preys,” so you can imagine the premise of this movie. That song, to me, just made the whole movie.

      Thanks for sharing!

Choice is a blessing, use it. Man has an undeniable ability to choose. Of course there are factors that influence that choice, nut in the end, the choice is yours. Choosing to start a day, choosing to live that day with meaning, your choice. Don’t waste, don’t let it go unnoticed, don’t lose out on it….choose and choose well! There are attacks on your choices, complex debilitating attacks. People, circumstances, uncontrollable happenstances…but don’t let them control your choices. When thing like hate, misunderstandings, and ignorance attack your choice, shake them off, and make your choice independently and free from there pull. Your choices, make you, you. They label you and make you strong or weak. Choose….and choose well!

  15. As some of you know I recently published a book on exactly this topic. When your doctors give up on you and give you 6 months to live in 2008, what do you do? There’s so many gifts I would love to share but let me mention the one that stands out as always ‘saving’ me–even to this day– and thats LOVE. Our biggest most disgusting enemy to wellness, living in peace and health, is our own self-talk and lack of self-love. NO one is coming to save you. When you think of the things that you think about, the words you use, the fears you engage in, yes, those things that NEVER leave your mind… only when you are aware of how you self-sabotage can you begin to heal.
Sending lots of love to all those who are going through pain, if I can help in any way, I’m here.

  18. We come into this world with life in front of us; not a good life, not a bad life. “Life” is a measure of time, not quality. The choices we make define that quality.

My wish for the world is that everyone always makes the healthiest and noblest of choices so that everyone’s quality of life improves daily and soars to new heights.
