Is this where we are going now to post our reviews? Not the Book Club Selections for Review? Just wondering. I read and reviewed The Spirit of the Book and thoroughly enjoyed it.

5.0 out of 5 starsGenuine Surprise. Loved it.

    ByNeils on June 20, 2016

    Format: Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase

After the first chapter I nearly put this book down. I thought it was another Roswell, N.M. story, a story that has been done time ad nauseum. I’m glad I didn’t. Yes, it starts out that way, but Mr. Skipper has untwisted and re-spun it to a point I could actually believe it was possible. The characters are great, the plot straight forward and very nicely twisted at the end.

In fact, just as I thought the story was about to end, it took in a whole new life. Humanity, it turns out, has a future, even after all its failures.

This book is filled with humor, suspense and sufficient techno-babble (based,I might add on reality) to satisfy purists in Sci/Fi. Some characters are irreverent SOB’s, others are feckless, and some are . . . shall we say, bureaucrats–you know the type.

There are some typo’s and repeated words which a good proofreader/editor should catch. Another round of editing would really sharpen an already great story. I’m not that much of a purist to let it distract me from the story or lessen the rating I gave it.

    Highly recommended.

  20. For the month of April I read three books from this genre and reviewed them on Amazon. The first one was Assassi’s Gift which I truly enjoyed and loved the story line. Spirit of the Book is one I just finished. The premise was intriguing and the ending was perfect. A great read. The third book was She Dies At The End which involves fairies, vampires, and of course humans. A good read.

  25. Review for “The Gemstone Chronicles:, Book 1: The Carnelian” By William L. Stuart

A charming tale suitable for all ages who enjoy a simple writing style commonly found in Midgrade to Young Adult. There is a good deal of head-hopping as the author jumps from one character to another to provide reactions to situations. It isn’t so serious that one can’t enjoy the read, but I found it enough to keep me from identifying with any one character.

There is quite a bit of expository writing to provide background which, in my mind, slows the story. This is often disguised as dialogue.

The fight scenes are good, but tend to lack intensity or any threat of impending loss or serious injury. The magic system is fairly coherent and based on the authors background in gems and rock hunting, which helps make it believable.

If you’re looking for high intensity, intrigue and treachery you may want to look elsewhere. If you want a cozy fantasy this will do the trick.

  37. IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ THIS FIRST BEFORE YOU POST A REVIEW IN HERE!

Because it’s needed apparently – a few words from Nonnie about posting reviews away from the main BOOKCLUB SELECTIONS FOR REVIEW (CATALOG) page…

“ATTENTION: PLEASE POST YOUR PURCHASES, READS AND REVIEWS ON THE MAIN BOOK CLUB SELECTIONS FOR REVIEW PAGE. THANK YOU!”

The reason for this is that Beem’s spread pretty thin and if you post away from the main page he may not pick up that you’ve done the review and so you won’t get credited for it…

BE SURE TO EMAIL BEEM at ravereviewsbookclub@gmail.com as well as sharing your reviews on the MAIN CATALOG page – that way your efforts won’t be missed! 😉
